Zanzibar Spice Tour

Zanzibar has a rich history with spices, dating back to the 16th century. Spices like cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pepper are an essential part of everyday life for Zanzibaris and have been important for trade throughout history. The Spice Tour offers a chance to explore Zanzibar’s countryside, where you can see the beautiful plantations just outside the town.

During this guided walking tour, you’ll pass through villages and spice farms, watching workers climb trees and harvest plants. You can touch, smell, and even taste the spices and exotic fruits grown here. You’ll also learn how these plants are used in local dishes, for medicinal purposes, and even for dyeing traditional clothing for weddings and festivals.

As part of the experience, you’ll be decorated with palm-leaf accessories like rings, ties, and bracelets. After the tour, you’ll enjoy a delicious traditional Swahili lunch, where you’ll taste the spices you learned about. The tour also includes a visit to the Kidichi Persian Baths, built in 1850 by the first Sultan of Zanzibar for his Persian wife. Finally, you can buy fresh spices directly from the farm to take home with you.
